Hi, I’m Michelle Armistead.

Michelle is an Arts Psychotherapist and Therapeutic Practitioner with over twenty years of experience in health and community care, grounded in evidence-based, trauma-informed, and person-centred practice. Michelle offers a calm and compassionate space for clients to explore their inner world at a pace that feels safe, integrating creative and counselling approaches to support emotional regulation, resilience, and overall wellbeing. Michelle is committed to creating spaces where people feel seen, heard, and valued.

Evidence strongly supports arts-based therapies as a powerful complement to—and often more accessible than—traditional talk therapies, particularly for children and young people. Through creative processes, clients can externalise their experiences, build self-confidence, and express emotions that may be difficult to articulate verbally. Arts psychotherapy provides a safe, non-judgmental way to process trauma, anxiety, overwhelm, and stress, while promoting regulation, curiosity, and resilience. Michelle has witnessed first-hand how creative expression can foster trust, insight, and lasting emotional growth in ways that words alone sometimes cannot achieve.

Michelle is a reflective and compassionate clinician experienced in supporting children, young people, adults, parents, carers, and older adults with stress, anxiety, overwhelm, trauma, emotion regulation challenges, and psychosocial disabilities. She welcomes anyone who has something on their mind or a feeling they’d like to understand or resolve—whether or not they yet have the words for it. Arts psychotherapy offers a gentle place to begin, supporting clarity, connection, and healing through creativity and relationship.

Testimonials

Sarah

“I can’t recommend Michelle highly enough. She creates a warm, safe and supportive space from the very first session.
I’m not particularly artistic, yet Michelle made the creative process feel accessible and empowering. Through collage and clay, I was able to explore and express feelings that are hard to put into words.
Compassionate and deeply attuned, Michelle is truly someone special.”
